Translations

I am a native speaker of English and German and grew up in the UK, Canada and Germany. I have studied and taught at British and German universities (more on background and qualifications here) and published in both English and German. I offer translation services for academic and creative writers and the cultural industries from German into English and — depending on the subject in question — from English into German. I also translate historical documents (records, correspondence) from German into English.

Editing and Proofreading

I proofread and edit work written in English by both native and non-native speakers. The level of input can vary between simply checking the language is correct to more substantial editing in terms of structure and content, depending on clients’ wishes.

Personal Service

I pride myself on offering a personalised service tailored to each client’s needs. I am happy to discuss aspects of clients’ work at any stage of each project via email, telephone or Skype — whatever is convenient.

Areas of Expertise

I specialise in the academic fields of the Arts and Humanities as well as creative work and texts for museums and cultural institutions. I have experience in the following areas:

  • English, German and Comparative Literature
  • Myth and Mythology
  • Music and Musicology
  • Theology
  • Philosophy
  • Document Studies
  • Communication Studies
  • Media
  • Archaeology and History
  • Art History
  • Classics
  • Social Sciences
  • Management and Organisational Behaviour
  • Museum brochures and websites
  • Monasteries and monastic orders
  • Language and Culture organisations
  • … and Breweries!

I also have experience working in the area of business and science. If you are not sure whether I can offer you the right service, please contact me for an informal discussion of your project.

Please note that I do not accept work from undergraduate students, although I am happy to read work from postgraduate research students (e.g. Ph.D. theses; I have proofread theses from top institutions such as Cambridge and Oxford Universities). Most universities do not condone the use of proofreading services for undergraduate work. I would recommend that undergraduates contact the graduate skills specialists at their university for advice and guidance.
